Spring

Spring has arrived in Northern Michigan. The last of the snow is finally gone and the daffodils are popping up. With the snow, the turkey have seemed to disappear, but we know they are nearby, the males putting on a show for their perspective partners. The deer are moving into the gardens near the house looking for the new shoots from our plants. We love to see them up here but worry about the lilacs and other plants. The deer have a way of snacking on the best flowers!

Building continues on the lower level. We are nearly ready to have the floor completed. I hope to post a picture of it here once it is done. Maybe in the next couple of weeks we'll be finished with the floor and ready to hang doors and put the 'river' on the wall. That is going to be a many months long project but well worth it.

Spring is also Morel Mushroom time in Northern Michigan. May is really the month for it, but when you host thousands (I swear, everyone from the surrounding states picks mushrooms at home and then comes here to pick them too!) you need plan plan plan. Boyne City is home of the National Morel Mushroom hunt and the four day festival is filled with fun. This year we are having 'da Yoopers', a musical comedy group from Michigan's upper penninsula join us on Friday night. The whole town (and those thousands of guests) come out for the Saturday afternoon 'taste of Boyne', a mouthwatering event where over a dozen restaurants fix dishes with Morels. YUM
